transportation services

There are no grocery stores on the island.  Groceries can be pre-ordered by fax at several Publix Grocery stores

in Cape Coral and can be picked up on your way to the island.  A shopping fee is charged which includes

packaging, dry ice, and styrofoam coolers for refrigerated items.  A downloadable order form is available,

just let me know if you need one.  Be sure to tell the driver of your transportation service which store you

ordered from to avoid confusion.  There are liquor stores adjacent to the Publix Grocery stores.  There are

only a few restaurants on the island.  Most first time visitors say they wish they had brought half as many

clothes and twice as much food, so be prepared!  The Lazy Lizard has Brita water filter pitchers and a Brita

water refrigerator tank, so there is no need for bottled water.

Local Airport:  SW FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (RSW) is located in Ft. Myers, Florida and is a small, user-friendly airport situated primarily on one level just about an hour away from a marina

where you can arrange your boat ride to North Captiva Island.  Tampa (TPA) and Sarasota (SRQ) are

further away to the North but may be worth the extra travel time depending on your origin of travel and current airline fares.  The landing strip o n North Captiva Island is one of the last remaining Gulf of Mexico Barrier Island Airstrips (The Salty Approach).  It, however, is for private use by members who are residents of North Captiva Island.
